Real talk
How we make money (the honest version).
Every guide on this site is free. No paywall, no locked answers, no "subscribe to see the winner." Here's how we pull that off — and why the way we get paid is exactly what keeps our picks honest.
The two ways we keep the lights on
1. Affiliate links. Many links on our guides and in the matcher are affiliate links. If you click one and buy something, the brand pays us a commission. It never costs you a penny more — the price is identical either way. That commission funds the research, the lab-report reading, the testing, and the writing.
2. The coolest merch in Austin. We also sell our own tees and hats. When you wear Kind Buds, you're directly funding the free guides — and looking good doing it.
Why this is good for you
Because we get paid the same modest commission no matter which lab-tested product you pick, we have no reason to push you toward the wrong one — only toward the rightone, so you trust us enough to come back. Our whole business depends on the recommendation being good. That's the deal: you get a friend who reads the lab reports; we get to keep being that friend.
The promise: no pay-to-play, ever
- A brand cannot buy a ranking, a "Best Overall" badge, or a kinder review. Not for any amount.
- Picks are ranked on lab transparency, sourcing, dosing accuracy, taste, and value — before any commission is considered.
- If a product with no affiliate deal is the best pick, it gets the top spot anyway (it's happened, and it'll happen again).
- If our opinion and our wallet ever disagree, the opinion wins. Full stop.
The nuts and bolts are in how we research.
The matcher, too
Our product finder recommends from the same editorial catalog as our guides — lab-tested products we'd point a friend to. Its results may include affiliate links, and the same promise applies: your answers pick the products, not the payout.
The serious stuff (because we love you)
- 21+ only. Our product content — hemp-derived and botanical alike — is for adults of legal age.
- Legality varies by state. Hemp-derived cannabinoids are federally legal under the 2018 Farm Bill (under 0.3% delta-9 THC by dry weight), but states restrict or ban them — and rules for botanicals like kava, kanna, and amanita muscaria vary too. Check your local laws before buying.
- Not medical advice. We describe experiences, not health outcomes. We don't diagnose, treat, or cure anything. Talk to a doctor before trying something new — especially if you're pregnant, nursing, or on medication.
- Don't drive. Never operate a vehicle or machinery after use. Obvious, but we'll always say it.
