Sort the table and the pattern is unmissable. Every drink at the bottom of the per-mg ranking is a low-dose can: Cann's 2 mg tonic (~$2.08/mg), BRĒZ's 2.5 mg Everyday (~$2.33/mg), Wynk's 2.5 mg mini ($1.67/mg). Every drink at the top is 10 mg or stronger. Averaged out, 5 mg and lighter SKUs cost $1.46 per mg while 10 mg and stronger SKUs cost 54 cents, a 2.7x gap.

This is not brands gouging beginners; it is what the can costs to make. The THC in a hemp seltzer is a small fraction of its cost of goods; the aluminum, flavor work, carbonation, shipping weight, and marketing are the same whether the emulsion carries 2 mg or 10. So the per-can price floors around $4 to $5 regardless of dose, and the fewer milligrams in the can, the more each one costs. The practical takeaways cut both ways: if you want the gentlest possible drink, the premium is the price of the format and it is still cheaper than a cocktail; if you want value and know your tolerance, a 10 mg can split or paced is the cheapest legal milligram in the hemp aisle.

Two more findings from the same math. Pack size matters almost as much as dose: Wynk's 5 mg seltzer drops from $1.50 per mg in the 6-pack to $1.08 in the 24-pack, a 28 percent discount for commitment, while Señorita holds a flat 47 cents per mg in every pack size. One comparison puts the whole hemp aisle in perspective. That is 5 to 10 cents per milligram, roughly 5x to 40x cheaper than anything in the hemp table above, sold under state cannabis licensing rather than the Farm Bill.

The gap is structural, not a scandal. Dispensary beverages are high-dose multi-serving bottles competing against gummies on a per-mg shelf, while hemp DTC drinks are single-serving consumer beverages competing against seltzer and wine, with DTC shipping baked into the price. But it is worth knowing which market you are shopping, because the November 12, 2026 federal container cap sharpens the split: as written it would end the hemp cans above in their current form while leaving state-licensed dispensary products untouched. Match the dose to your experience first, then shop price within that dose. The index makes low-dose cans look expensive, and per milligram they are, but a beginner who buys the cheap 50 mg tallboy to optimize cents-per-mg has optimized the wrong variable.
